Butterflies

Advisory!!! Lots of photos ahead.
You can click on them to enlarge them.

On occasion, we take the kids to Home Depot Day, where they have projects for kids to do for free.

This month's project, was a butterfly house.

You're suppose to put ripe fruit in it, the butterfly comes in and lays it's eggs, and that must mean we'll get caterpillars.?. I really don't know.

The kids decided to color their houses and put them out in our flower garden...
and I use that term very loosely.

Because there was some interest in butterflies, I thought it would be nice to go and visit the Butterfly Pavilion, for our first time.
We saw "exotic" bugs, spiders, marine life and of course butterflies.

Here's a tour in photos:

Exotic "Bugs"

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Leaf and Stick Bugs
(Not the official names.)

The "stick's" -
Preston did point out that they were "mating
The "leaf" -
Horton Hears a Who portrays these "bugs".

"Rosie" the tarantula.
Yes, all tarantula's are poisonous!

Preston pushed Landon to go first...
then Preston was brave enough.

That's my hand.
Trying to show Tanner and Kaylie that it's not that bad.

Later...

Tanner and Kaylie gave "high fives".

Even later...
Tanner finally worked up the courage to hold her.

A baby from "Rosie" that's 1 1/2 years and the biggest spider there, a Salmon Pink Birdeater.
(That's Preston's hand next to the spider.)

Marine Life

Starfish

Horseshoe Crab

Exotic Butterflies

Looking for and at butterflies.

What we saw.

These were my favorite two butterflies.

Got a chance to see the tortoise, while he was getting "exercise",
which he does for 30 minutes a day.

It's about near impossible to get four kids looking at the camera, with a smile, at the same time.

Take 1

The best one

Take 2

Where there's butterflies there are flowers.

We have to leave through a room of mirrors to make sure there are no "hitchhikers".

The butterfly houses were colored April 8
Our trip to the Butterfly Pavilion was April 13

Great post!! We went to the Butterfly Palace in Branson and it was awesome! I wasn't too excited about going but man, once we were there, the butterflies and all the flowers were GREAT! And how funny-we had a maze of mirrors to go through as well!

Love all the pics!
