After a little over 3 1/2 weeks, the cast was ready to come off. I was a little concerned with it coming off so soon, but I was informed that with the elbow, you want to get it moving pretty quickly. Because the appointment was set for Tuesday at 1:15, I thought I'd have to go by myself and take all the kids. (I won't talk about the reaction I got from a certain somebody when I told him the time of the appt., to make me think that I would deal with it on my own.)
We were once again, headed to Children's Hospital in Aurora (30 min.) to go and get the cast off.
Once there, they called us back in the room pretty quickly, we waited around 30 minutes for the "cast taker off'er" to come in.
FREEDOM!!!
Some more x-rays.
Then we waited some more.
The x-rays and and talking to the dr. took about 15 minutes.
After taking to cast off, it felt "weird". Tanner said that he felt like a "robot" because his arm would just start moving on it's own. I asked the dr. if that was normal and he said, "No, I wouldn't call it normal, but it's nothing to be concerned about." After that first day, there were no more involuntary movements. We left with the instructions that he needed to "play". That is the best way for kids to get full movement back. As of today (24th), Tanner seems to have 90% -95% movement back in his arm. He can pretty much totally straighten it, but he can't fully bend it up towards his shoulder.
